Concrete
Problem
Application Issues:
~ Problems with the material curling, breaking and changing color.
Common Problems:
The permeability of concrete leads to the passage of water and the retention of moisture within the slab. Moisture in the slab can corrode rebars and cause structural damage. The majority of all concrete claims are moisture related, and the following problems occur:
Spalling: Breaking away of concrete at joints or steel reinforcing usually caused by moisture attack on the rebars.
Cracking: Shrinkage cracks occur when there is too much water in the mix.
Compaction Cracks: Cracks are usually are caused by substrate settling below the slab. Stress cracks occur when the slab is subjected to extreme loads.
Crazing: Cracking of the roof substrate from wind, rain and UV exposure.
Biological Growth: Concrete absorbs moisture and is porous, which can support the growth of fungus.
Roof Ponding: Ponding areas are usually caused by structural deflection.
Solution
Why SRM over a Concrete Roof?
SRM will restore and extend the life of your roof.
SRM is inorganic, and does not promote the growth of fungus.
SRM will perform and stay adhered in the presence of ponding water.
SRM protects the substrate from the UV attack and weathering.
SRM is liquid applied directly to the roof system, covering every crack, gap and patch with a silicone product designed specifically for that part of the roof.
SRM provides a monolithic roof membrane − no seams.
SRM in white will provide a highly reflective, cool membrane.
WDG Products needed:
- 701 Sealant or 601 Butter Grade to seal the cracks
- WDG Polyester Fabric (if needed)
KGF 1000 to seal around drains or scuppers - HSS 535 Flashing Grade on walls, skylights, parapets, ect.
- HSS 535 Coating on the roof
Always perform an adhesion test prior to application of WDG SRM. 211 Primer may be required.
How to apply SRM to a Concrete Roof?
Verify concrete is aged/properly cured
Power-wash/Clean Roof Substrate
Address details and required repairs (sealants/535 coatings/embedded fabric)
Apply single-coat of HSS 535 Solvent-Free Silicone
Note: Always refer to WDG Specifications for application instructions. 211 Primer may be required.
