Getting the Most from SRM
Surface Preparation
Existing roof membranes or substrates to receive SRM coatings and sealants must be clean, dry and sound. Contractors need to ensure that the roof is free of all dust, dirt, debris, oil, solvents and other materials that may adversely affect SRM adhesion. Cleaning methods include:
- Blow-down with compressed air
- Stiff bristle or power broom
- Wash-down with TSP/water solution to remove oils and grease
- Power vacuum - wet or dry
- Wire brush/brush blast for metal surfaces
Verify that all repairs were made - including seams, flashing and edges - during the roof examination. Complete a field adhesion test before beginning SRM application to ensure that SRM adhesion is acceptable - samples of the tests may be reviewed by WDG.
